Independent Publishers Book Party at James Cohan Gallery (48 Walker St.)

Shane Rocheleau: Lakeside Book Signing & Talk with Stephen Frailey at Launch Photo Books (59 Orchard St.)
Tonight, 5/4 7pm
I first learned about Rocheleau's work from going through Portland, OR based photo-book publisher Gnomic Book's roster of titles-- I couldn't look away from Lakeside. Rocheleau is among other photographers based in Richmond, Virginia that have been captivating my interests including Susan Worsham (Thanks Raif for the recommendation). Learning about his work has brought up questions with friends on how to see and treat the provocativeness of his portraits, class and whiteness visualized, and its intersections. Exciting to see writer, critic, and founding editor of Dear Dave, magazine, Frailey lead this convo.
Canal Street Research Association: Street Market outside Canal Projects (351 Canal St.)
Saturday, 5/6 1-6pm
The C.S.R.A. street market was originally scheduled for last weekend, but was postponed with the recent insane rainfall. Participating vendors, artists, and groups include Chang Yuchen, Black Mass Publishing, Jeef Jeel, Spout, Uneek Iba, among others! See flier below for further details and teased items.

Canal Street Research Association: FRUITS at Storefront for Art and Architecture (97 Kenmare St.)
[RSVP] On Sunday, May 7, Canal Street Research Association presents FRUITS, a spring celebration and ode to triangles, street vendors, and the complexity of Canal Street. Beginning at their current exhibition, New Land Plaza: You Can’t Beat a New York Original at Storefront, visitors will embark on a meandering procession through the neighborhood streetscape before arriving at the tip of the so-called “Counterfeit Triangle” where Canal, Walker, and Baxter Streets meet — formerly home to a vibrant street market of produce sellers known as the Triangle Vendors. There, the small forest at the Triangle’s tip will play host to a set of performances and reflections from artist Emmy Catedral with poet Paolo Javier, channeling poet Frances Chung, and poet and critic John Yau, author of Crossing Canal Street. The group will convene under the trees to enjoy offerings and refreshments, including ephemeral hangings by artists Ryan Foerster and chef RJ Gitter, on site-specific seating by architect Sebastijan Jemec.
