Kris Graves: A Peek Behind the Curtain Artist Talk at Center for Fine Art Photography
Tonight, 10/25, 7pm EST; Virtual, Zoom
I’m excited to hear that artist and publisher Graves is doing another talk on his practice as I was recently watching his lecture at the Los Angeles Center of Photography from three years ago where he spoke candidly and at length about the publishing world, process, and financing. I truly appreciate Graves’s work as someone who is both committed to the expression and physical manifestation of photography, and interested in quality production— not merely convenient, cheap, and easy bookmaking, but books that are comparable with major publishers despite his team being solely himself and friends at times. Register for the Zoom call here.
Making Photobooks: Martin Parr and Lesley A. Martin in Conversation at Magnum Foundation
Friday, 10/27 7-9pm; 59 East 4th St. #7W
I haven’t familiarized myself with much of Parr’s work in the past but this seems like a timely reason to educate myself, particularly in the case that Aperture’s Creative Director Martin will be in convo with the artist. I’m looking forward to seeing what educational values and tools will come out of such a discussion. RSVP for free here.
